I have tried leave this question 3 times and each time after I submit the question it disappears. I hope this attempt works. Do factory-sealed containers of protein drinks (cardboard) and factory-sealed plastic drinks (Gatorades) need to be double-bagged?
Hi Tammy. Thanks for reach out. Drinks and food items in cardboard or plastic must be removed or double bagged even if the factory seal is intact. Remember the only exceptions are glass containers factory sealed and metal cans factory sealed.
I am in Carlsbad Crest at 852 Violet Ct. Carlsbad. Our garage requires a small key to open. I was planning to include it with our house key under the mat. Is that acceptable?
Hi Kelly. Yes, that’s absolutely fine.
Per the Accurate video, factory sealed glass and metal containers do not need to be bagged. Please clarify for plastic and ‘boxed’ drink containers (unopened/factory sealed).
(I did not see this topic in the video or instructions) Regarding the townhouses in our community, there are 4 garages/units per building. One garage is accessible from inside the (D) unit, one garage is accessible through a door on the patio (C-unit), and the other 2 garages (A & B units) are ONLY accessible via opening the garage door. For anyone that will not be home when the crew arrives, the residents should know to leave an opener/key to access the garage.
Hi Mark. Thanks for pointing that out. Regarding the bagging instructions, plastic and boxed drinks must also be removed or double bagged using only the nylofume material provided. We have asked residents to leave a spare clicker on the kitchen counter for garage access to those that aren’t directly connected to the patio or living space.
Hey Ozzie, in response to your 09/15 9:33am reply regarding factory sealed plastic drink containers, there seems to be conflicting information.
As I stated in my original question, the accurate video details glass and metal containers do not need to be bagged. However, the PDF attached to this website says plastic drink containers do not need to be bagged. Hence my question for clarity. Additionally, when the Accurate inspection crew arrived yesterday, I explicitly asked about the plastic drink containers I left unbagged, and the inspector said they were ok.
Additionally, your video information and responses here seem to contradict published and public information regarding factory sealed plastic containers (Vikane® Specialty Gas Fumigant — EPA Reg. No. 1015-78, EPA-stamped July 11, 2024, specimen label revised July 8, 2024; EPA’s official 2024 Vikane label (EPA Reg. No. 1015-78); California Department of Pesticide Regulation).
Since my building is currently tented, this may seem like a moot point, but I’d like to know how to deal with the plastic drink containers that are currently unbagged in my house.
Thank you for an additional information you can provide.
Hi Mark. Thanks for your question. When it comes to plastics, the rule can get a bit confusing. Yes, factory sealed plastic containers are okay to leave behind as is. However, it only applies to hard plastics such as gatorade bottles and 2 liter soda bottles. It does not apply to malleable plastics such as bags of beef jerky or the sealed bags inside a cereal box. For that reason we simplify our instructions to avoid that confusion and would rather be overly cautious when dealing with consumable items. It happens often where residents misunderstand the plastics rule and are dismayed to find that some of their items had been removed due to not having been double-bagged as it should have been. It’s our effort to maintain clear and constant instructions across all our fumigations.
Ozzie,
Does the Vikane gas kill insects (ants, spiders, roaches, etc), mice, and other creatures that may be in the walls of our homes?
Hey David. The fumigation does kill other pests, but the particular treatment applied to your building is for termites. You will likely see other pests have died in the process, but don’t be surprised to still see some ants or other critters around the house.
Ozzie,
I know you will be fumigating 4 buildings in our community 9/15. That’s 2 condo buildings (16 units) and 2 townhome buildings (8 units). You’ve asked all of us to be out by 8am that day. I doubt you have 24 inspectors, so assuming everyone is actually out at 8am, what do you think the time for completion of all inspections will be? How many people will actually do the inspections – one for each building or what? I’m asking because of my own schedule. I would like to be here at the time you start my condo, but if that isn’t between say 7:30 and 9am, I won’t be.
Regarding carports, your flyer posted on our carport storage doors says doors must be unlocked by 8am 8/15. You didn’t say anything about leaving a key for you anywhere. Some people are leaving the night before and don’t want to leave the storage closet door unlocked. Valuables are in those storage closets – tools, surfboards, bikes, etc. It doesn’t appear Accurate has done carports before – separate structures from condo buildings, That’s worrisome. Can carport storage closet keys be left where house keys are left?
Hi David. You are absolutely right. You do not need to vacate at 8am on the dot. You are welcome to remain home until the crew arrives whatever time that might be. However, please be aware that their arrival could range from 8am to early afternoon. You’re also welcome to vacate earlier if you prefer. We cannot accept storage or vehicle keys. You are also welcome to leave your storage space locked until crews arrive. Any valuables in the storage space you would like to remain secured are best left inside the home during fumigation.
I have concerns about a bush at the corner of our condo patio as to whether you can get the fumigation tent between the bush and the patio side/railing. Can I send you 3-4 photos of the situation for you to review and comment? If you believe there is not enough room and the bush needs to be trimmed I would rather the landscape Co. do it rather than you. Where can I send photos?
Photos will help immensely. Please send them to fumigations@accuratetermitecontrol.com
Must supplies of toothpaste, tooth brushes, toothpicks, dental floss, mouthwash, teeth whitening strips, eye drops, medical inhailers need to be bagged or removed?
Hi David. Out of the items you listed, only inhalers need to be removed or double bagged. Hygiene and cosmetic products can stay as is.
Qzzie, you told me carports weren’t included in our fumigation project, and now (again) I learn they are. Therefore I ask the same question I asked in my 8/17 posting – number 1 below:
1-(on 8/17) I just learned carports are included in our fumigation project, but have not been specifically covered in information provided. How to expect to gain access to the carport storage? what kinds of items must be removed from the storage, eg paper napkins supplies, plastic rap supplies for covering foods, supplies of dish washing sponges, etc.
2-in the communication from the Accurate team today confirming carports will be done, no mention was made as to how you access the carport storage closet. We don’t have mats in front of our doors in the carports or door handles for lock boxes.
3-is there anything else specific to carports that you should mention that is different from the instructions for the condos in the building next door to the carports?
Hi David, I apologize for the confusion. Initially we were not expected to cover the carports but management did clarify to us that they should be included in the fumigation. The carport storage must remain unlocked or you can have the inspectors check it in your presence when they arrive. The storage closet will need to remain unlocked if it belongs to an individual homeowner. Nothing from the carport needs to be removed unless its for, medicine, or any other edible items. paper napkins supplies, plastic rap supplies for covering foods, supplies of dish washing sponges, etc. can all stay as is. Vehicles should be removed from the carport. If a vehicle stays in the carport during the fumigation, it will need to remain unlocked for inspection and ventilation.
Again, I’m really sorry for the confusion. Please don’t hesitate to reach out again if you have any other question.
If we can get in to our units on 9/17 at noon, while we wait for SDGE we can still use the electricity? ( I assume my refrigerator will stay on during the fumigation?)
We received an email that the carports are being fumigated. The carports are not attached to our building. Each unit has a small storage closet at the end of their carport space that is has a lock ( each unit has their own key). From your comment above, since the carports are not attached, they will not be fumigated? This is an important question because I can then put some sensitive items in my storage closet.
Keep in mind that many of the renters were not informed of a town hall meeting.
Hi Barbara.Electricity will stay on during the fumigation. I apologize for the confusion.
I am not seeing my address listed in order for me to fill out the form
Hi Karlyn. Not all buildings are scheduled for fumigation. If you email us your address to fumigations@accuratetermitecontrol.com we’ll be able to definitively tell you if your building is scheduled to be fumigated.
1-I just learned carports are included in our fumigation project, but have not been specifically covered in information provided. How to expect to gain access to the carport storage? what kinds of items must be removed from the storage, eg paper napkins supplies, plastic rap supplies for covering foods, supplies of dish washing sponges, etc.
2- there is some sort of meeting with you to ask questions. your link to finding meeting dates/locations doesn’t work. When/where is a meeting?
3- Apparently, SDGE will turn off gas at the meter. Do we need to turn off gas at the appliances – water heater, stove, clothes dryer, furnace? Why does SDGE come into the house after we return from the fumigation?
4- I don’t like leaving the key under the mat. Can I leave it in another place on the patio? Where is the key during fumigation and after before we return home?
5- my contact phone number submitted on the OFN needs to change. How do I do that?
Hi David. To clarify, we are fumigating the residences only along with any garages sharing the same building. Detached stand alone carports will not be fumigated. Garages must be left unlocked on fumigation day if you have one in the building. The meeting for your HOA has been prerecorded. At the top of the web page you will see a button that says “play webinar”. That video will give you all the detailed instructions for your fumigation. If you still have questions, we are happy to help. You do not need to turn off appliances. SDGE will need to inspect the condition of the gas lines in and out of the home to ensure there will not be any gas leaks when they turn the meter on. They are scheduled to arrive between 12pm and 6pm on your last day of fumigation. They will need someone to be home to give them access. Otherwise they will not be able to turn your meter on. You also have the option of leaving your key in a lockbox and sending us the code or you can hand your key in person when fumigators arrive. We just don’t have an exact time frame for their arrival. So if your schedule allows it, you are welcome to stick around to hand your key in directly. To change any information on your form you would have to resubmit the form again with the updated info you wont to note.
After we bag everything does it just go back in the fridge and cupboard while you’re fumigating?
Hey Lonnie. Yes, perishable items can go back in the fridge or freezer after you double bag them. I recommend taking out the shelves to have more space available to put the bags in when they’re filled.
I need the bags today and need to get you a key today. How do I do that?
Thanks for reaching out. Unfortunately we don’t have anyone that can make a delivery today for your bags. However, you can stop by our office in San Diego to pick up a set and drop off your key. The address is 8137 Engineer Rd, San Diego, 92111. Please just give us a heads up if your are coming by.
Carlsbad Crest patios, will the entire patio be covered, all sides the fences? Will the tent cover the entire patio?
Pick up your allotted Nylofume Bags (20 per unit)
